Right now, my home decor style is somewhere between the college girl who never really got to live on her own and an actual adult with her own money and a house no one else gets to dictate.

So basically, I’m in transition.

At the moment, I lean toward natural wood, darker finishes, earthy tones, and antique pieces. A lot of my furniture is still made up of hand-me-downs or things that were built by me, my dad, or both of us. Honestly, I like that part. Even as I slowly replace things and figure out what I want my home to look like long-term, I don’t think I’ll ever be someone who wants everything brand new and perfectly coordinated.

There’s something about furniture with a history that feels more like home.

As I get more settled, I can definitely see my style moving further toward darker woods, warm colors, and natural textures. That said, my office currently has white furniture, so clearly I’m not following any strict rules.

And that’s probably the most accurate description of my decorating style: I like what I like.

It doesn’t always fit neatly into one category. I have some ultra-girly unicorn and rainbow things. I have plenty of outdoorsy decor. I like antiques. I like handmade pieces. I even own a few trendy things—gasp.

None of it necessarily sounds like it should go together, but somehow it usually does. Or at least, it works for me.

I’ve never been very good at boxing myself into one category of person, and that definitely spills over into how I decorate. I’m not just outdoorsy. I’m not just girly. I’m not just traditional, rustic, colorful, practical, or sentimental.

I’m all of those things depending on the day.

So I’m still figuring out my home decoration style, but I think that’s part of the fun. My home is slowly becoming a collection of things I’ve made, things I’ve inherited, things I’ve loved for years, and things I finally bought because I could.

It may never fit perfectly into one design style.

But it fits me.
